The short version

This app shows no ads, sells nothing about you, and carries no trackers from anyone else. What it keeps is what it needs to put your cards on your other device and to fix things when they break. This page says which is which, in plain words.

Your account

You can create an account with an email address and password. The iPhone app, Android app, and website also offer Google sign-in. If you choose Google, it can supply your email address, profile name, profile picture, and Google account identifier to our authentication service. We do not ask for your phone number or date of birth, or buy information about you.

You can use the app without an account. It simply will not follow you to a second device.

What is saved, and where

Your cards live on the device you made them on. When you are signed in, the app also copies your decks, your cards, your review history, and the pictures and sounds attached to your cards to the app's own database, so your phone and your computer agree about what you know.

That copy travels over encrypted connections, and it is visible only to you: every read and every write is checked against your account first. Signed out, nothing leaves the device.

What the app records about the install

One line per device you sign in on:

It is there so the settings screen can show you your own devices, and so a problem can be traced to a version and a platform instead of guessed at. It is not sold, not shared, and not used to advertise anything.

When you report a problem

If you send feedback or report a bug from inside the app, what arrives is what you typed, the install details above, and — if you reported it from a card — which card you were looking at. Nothing else is attached.

The microphone

The microphone is used in one place: when you press record to practise saying something out loud and compare yourself with the example. It opens when you press record and closes when you stop.

The recording stays in the phone's memory while you listen back to it, and is thrown away the moment you move on. It is never saved to the device, never added to your cards, and never sent anywhere.

Connected AI apps

Polyglot Cards is provided by MidaMultiMedia, LLC. If you connect an AI service such as ChatGPT or Claude, you authorize it to read and change your collection through the connector. Depending on your request, tool responses include deck names, note and card identifiers, card text, tags, pictures, audio references, review history, scheduling dates, and recall estimates. Identifiers let the service refer to and correct the right cards.

The connector receives the tool arguments the AI service sends. It does not independently listen to your microphone or read your other conversations. Words and examples sent to create or update cards are saved in your collection. Your conversation with the AI service is also subject to that service's own privacy policy and account settings.

If you ask the connected AI to remember how you like to learn, we store up to 20 short teaching preferences with your account. If you request or agree to saving practice summaries, we store a brief summary rather than a full transcript, retaining only the latest three summaries per language. These preferences and summaries are returned to the connected AI when it retrieves your learning context or vocabulary. You can ask it to show, edit, or delete them. Preferences remain until you remove them or delete your account; older summaries are removed when newer ones exceed the limit. Disconnecting an AI service does not delete this saved context.

Supabase hosts account authentication, the synced database and media. Netlify serves the website and forwards connector requests. When generated pronunciation is requested, the hosted voice worker on Modal processes the card text and language and returns audio. Image searches send the search phrase to Openverse; selected image URLs are fetched from their hosts. We do not send your entire conversation to the voice or image services.

You can disconnect the app in the AI service's settings. This does not delete cards already saved or copies held in the AI service's chat history. Contact support if you need help revoking an authorization. Saved cards remain until you delete them or your account.

What never happens

Deleting your account

Write to support@polyglot.cards from the address you signed up with and ask for your account to be deleted. All of it goes: the account, your decks and cards, your review history, and the files attached to your cards.

You can also delete your account from the app's account settings in current versions. Contact support if your installed version does not show that option.

Changes to this page

If any of this changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. There is no separate notice to miss.
